Frequently Asked Questions
Do guests need to pay?
No. Guests never pay anything. The host pays once per party and all guests get full access to their personalized character kits and the party experience.
How long does it take to generate a mystery?
Story generation typically takes 2–5 minutes after payment. You'll see a progress indicator on your party page. Character kits are generated immediately after the story is complete.
How many guests can I invite?
The Digital Starter supports up to 8 guests, Digital Plus up to 15 guests, and the Print Bundle up to 20 guests. Each guest gets a unique invite link — no accounts required.
What does a character kit include?
Each character kit contains a personalized backstory, motivations, secrets, objectives, costume suggestions, and conversation starters — all tailored to your mystery's theme and the guest's questionnaire answers.
Can I customize the theme?
Yes. During the creation wizard you choose the theme (e.g. Art Deco Noir, Victorian Manor, Campy 80s), tone (classic, comedy, dramatic, or light), difficulty, and venue constraints. The AI uses all of this to generate a fully personalized mystery.
What happens if I need more guests than my package allows?
You'll need to upgrade to a higher tier before generating the story. Package tier changes are not available after payment, so choose your guest count carefully.
Is there a refund policy?
Because story generation begins immediately after payment, we do not offer refunds once generation has started. If you have a technical issue, contact support@whodunit.party and we'll make it right.
What is the Print Bundle?
The Print Bundle is our largest tier (up to 20 guests) and includes print-optimized character kit assets, making it easy for the host to print physical kits for guests who prefer offline play.
